Interviewing best practices

My boss, Bruce Horn, who is a great guy, pointed me to this, written by his friend, Bjorn Freeman-Benson, (who Bruce says is also a great guy): Advice on Hiring.

On reading it, I noticed that Bruce has used the “critique this C/ruby/whatever code” in interviews he has run. This is good. Interviewing is a tricky business, both for interviewers and interviewees, so some best practices are welcome. I do not like the Google-style “do this complicated problem” style of interview. I think it is hard to do that kind of problem solving on the spot. At the same time, purely high level interviews which never get down to technical details are insubstantial and inconclusive. Freeman-Benson’s advice is short but resonates with my own experience. Please read it… especially if you plan on interviewing me.
